CRJ 422 Week 4 discussions 1 and 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
CRJ 422 Week 4 discussions 1 and 2 - Essay Example Working with school administrations, community centers, rehabilitation centers and the juvenile courts, the career path will help in fulfilling my life term passion of impacting directly on peoplesââ¬â¢ lives through offering expert opinion on how juveniles can be corrected and handled. This significant stride in choosing an ambitious career path must equally be attributed to concrete knowledge instilled in me through my study in Ashford University. In preparation for my final capstone project on juvenile violence and delinquency, I found it surprising at the escalating figures of the number of juveniles who are involved in criminal activities. The degenerating nature of the juvenile institution in the society struck me as an issue that demands immediate mitigation measures. Before beginning my research on the topic "juvenile violence and delinquency," I did not put into consideration the significance of drug abuse as a causative agent of juvenile violence and delinquency. Nevertheless, through the course of the research, I have come to realize that the position of drug abuse coupled with hopelessness among the youth has significantly led to the rise in incidences of juvenile violence and delinquency. Through analysis of criminal theories, I also came to realize that there is a lot the criminal and social justice system can borrow from the sociological, biological, economical and physiological theories of crime. Through the application of these theories and their recommendation, incidences of juvenile violence and delinquency can be reduced in the society. Biological theory for instance recommends a change in characteristics of a mother during pregnancy like avoidance of smoking to ensure that the baby is born to a healthy mental state while economic theory grounds on the need for economic engagement of the youth to prevent them from engaging

Constitutional law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Constitutional law - Essay Example The probability of preparing laws to protect American citizens will be limited if the Elected Officials safety is not provided in the constitution. In essence, enforcement of laws such as those of prior censorship or prior restraint to protect citizens is bestowed on the Elected Officials. Similarly, absence of such laws will result into subjects approaching their representative and present their perception over certain issues. Thus, laws such as prior censorship or prior restraints have been stipulated to ensure publishers to remain accountable for any publications or communication. Restriction of hearing and distribution of censored material is provided under the prior restraint. However, some regions such as Argentina and U. S impose sanctions after communication of this material. Different cases have been used to affirm this position of the law (Thomas and dale 1). They include Near Vs Minnesota (1931) Near was convicted for publishing a malicious, disreputable, and defamatory ar ticle against Charles G. Davis, a special law enforcement officer. As a result, the defendant was banned from publishing any kind of newspaper. Though the statute to suppress public nuisance of periodicals and newspaper is essential it raises questions of grave significance that transcends local interest s entailed in any particular action. Nevertheless, the ruling was based on the unusual and illegitimate manner the defendant sought to execute his desire. Further, more exposition is brought out through the 1971 New York Times Co. V. United States case. In this case, a court injunction was given to prevent publication of an article rather document that would endanger the nationââ¬â¢s security (Thomas and dale 1). I believe the prior restraint was valid since the first amendment was absolute. Similarly, the 1993 case Hill v. Colorado affirms the restriction of publication or passing of pamphlets to state officials. Restriction of protests around abortion clinics resulted into the 100-foot radius buffer zone. In my opinion, this legislation works in protection of the state officials. Therefore, I believe it is worth concluding that it is unlawful for any individual to hand any form of publication or publish any information that endangers the safety of a nation of state officials (Epstein 45). Question 2 I believe the students are free to hold their ceremony at the schoolââ¬â¢s graduation square as planned. Concerning Lee v. Weismen court case, the students club had prior knowledge on their rights thus their meetings in a room to use facilities after school was justified. The ruling approved clergies to lead prayers during graduation. As a result, subtle religious coercion emerged due to violation of the Establishment clause. I think acknowledgement of the presence of a supreme is essential thus; their desire to hold a separate graduation is justifiable. In my opinion, the option of not attending the graduation ceremony excuses any coercion or inducement in the ceremony itself is discarded. In the current society, high school graduation is a significant occasion; therefore, no student is free to absent himself or herself from the exercise in any real sense of the term "voluntary." In addition, not dispositive is the disputation that prayers are an essential part of these ceremonies because for many people

Key Reasons for the Depressing Sales and Profit Case Study
Key Reasons for the Depressing Sales and Profit - Case Study Example One of the chief reasons that try to explain the depressing sales and profits of the Cafe Bijoux is the poor advertising and promotion of the restaurant. In accordance to the introduction of the case, study of the Cafe Bijoux, Jennifer the professor of marketing and a marketing consultant drove back and forth the B street in search for the Cafe Bijoux. Jennifer also denotes that she drove along the B Street making several turns without seeing any visible sign of the restaurant1. This implies that the management of the restaurant has failed in making Cafe Bijoux known to the people. Only after making several circling around the street is when Jennifer was capable of seeing a small sign giving direction to the Cafe Bijoux restaurant. In accordance to the description of Jennifer, it is evident that poor promotion and advertisement of the Cafe Bijoux has contributed to the depressing sales and profits. The number of customers visiting a restaurant is determined by the advertisement and p romotions made concerning the services offered. Since the management of the Cafe Bijoux lacks appropriate advertising techniques, it is almost impossible of the customers interested in obtaining food services from the cafe to identify the direction of the cafe2. Since the cafe is poorly advertised to the customers, it explains the reason why the sales and profits are depressing. Fewer customers visiting the Cafe Bijoux contribute little to the management and maintenance of the cafe. An additional reason that explains to the depressing profits and sales of the Cafe Bijoux is fact that the restaurant offers only one meal. The Cafe Bijoux only offers lunch meals to the target customers. Most of the restaurants in the region that aim at increasing the profitable margins aim at serving the customers with breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, serving the customers with only one meal gives a reason why the Cafe Bijoux receives depressing profits and sales. Not all the target customers will eat lunch from the restaurant. Some of the customers will prefer eating breakfast and maybe carry take away dinner to eat with the rest of the family members. However, since the Cafe Bijoux only offers launch meals alone, it discourages the number of the customers willing to eat breakfast and dinner at the same time3. The restaurant ought to increase the number of meals served to attract more customers and increase the sales and profitable returns. 2. Jennifer conducted a quick phone survey to understand the primary customersââ¬â¢ perceptions about Cafe Bijoux. Describe how Jennifer might have conducted the phone survey (based on your knowledge from marketing research). Phone surveys are one of the modern methods of data collection especially in the field of marketing to gather more information concerning the behavior of the customers. In accordance to the case study of the Cafe Bijoux restaurant, Jennifer conducted a quick phone survey to identify the customerââ¬â¢s behavior in relationship to the attitude and perception towards the Cafe Bijoux4. In conducting the phone survey, Jenner also gained additional information concerning the perception of the surrounding resident towards the services offered by the Cafe Bijoux. The phone survey concerning the Cafe Bijoux would also aid in undertaking customers analysis hence discovering the problems affecting the customers willing to acquire services from the restaurant. In Jenniferââ¬â¢s case, the Cafe Bijoux quick phone survey purposefully conducted the quick phone survey to find out the behavior of the City Hall employees who were the key target for the meals served. The phone survey conducted by Jennifer concerning Cafe Bijoux might have been undertaken in diverse ways to get a proper feedback of the

The Brain Left vs Right Essay Example for Free
The Brain Left vs Right Essay The brain is a continually researched part of the human anatomy. With advances in technology, medicine and psychology it has been continually researched. The current science we have now reveals many things about the brain, such as there are two hemispheres in the brain, the left side and the right side. How much truth is there behind certain hemispheres impacting learning differently? In this essay we will take a look at each hemisphere separately, together and there correlation to learning determining and evaluate any actual facts. The left hemisphere of the brain is assumed to control certain functions more so than the right side. The left brain is often more associated with tasks involving logic, analytical thinking, and language. Much of the research is controversial as to if each hemisphere is different, and unique. Hines (1987) states, clearly there ââ¬Å"are differences between the two hemispheres of the human brainâ⬠in regards to how ââ¬Å"they process information.â⬠This being said if the left hemisphere is mainly in charge of language and logic, what is the right responsible for? The right hemisphere is thought to control expressive and creative tasks such as emotional, creativity, music etcâ⬠¦ There have been multiple studies that point towards each hemisphere having more control over certain areas than others. That being said there is controversy that you are using both hemispheres equally. There are many theories out there but no one hundred percent facts yet. With this in mind is either side more advantageous in regards to learning? The hemispheres usually work together in every aspect, they work together to create the best outcome. In order to read, for instance, a person needs to constantly access both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously. The brain has something called the corpus callosum, a bundle of nerve fibers. This is what allows the two brain hemispheres to communicate and transfer information freely. Brain Yochim et al. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦hypothesized that the RH [right hemisphere] performs a ââ¬Å"coarse grainâ⬠analysis from which the LH[left hemisphere], which performs a ââ¬Å"fine grainâ⬠analysis, then selects the most appropriate interpretation.â⬠. Obviously the brain functions as a whole but is either side more advantageous in regards to learning? Then if each of the hemispheres of our brain has certain functions or specialties, this would make the brain avoid duplication of function. According to Ann Hermann-Nehdi ââ¬Å"the brain functions as a whole, not two individual parts-has evolved into a useful framework for learning and performance.â⬠(2010). The hemispheres work together making all learning a combination of the left and right hemispheres. There is however, a tendency if you will for one hemisphere to be more dominant. The dominant hemisphere directly effects how each individual will respond to new experiences and learning techniques. With this knowledge in mind we are better able to decide the style of learning to pursue. There has been and will be continuous research into the anatomy of the brain. The brain in its complexity may one day be figured out. When that one day comes maybe the facts will push humanity even further toward greatness. The two hemispheres of the brain may be responsible for different things, but both are used. In regards to learning that is also the case, we use both hemispheres and different learning styles to create the most logical interpretation of the presented information. The brain is a complex organ and the continual advances in science and technology may one day lead our knowledge of learning even further.

Tragic Flaws Of Othello Essay -- essays research papers
Jealousy and Gullibility: The Devastating Flaws of Othello ââ¬Å"The tragic flaw is the most important part of the hero and the events that occur in the work is a reflection of that flaw.â⬠ââ¬â Aristotle The plot of William Shakespeare's Othello is a tale of love, jealousy, and betrayal; however, the characters, themes, and attitudes of the works are different, with Shakespeare's play being a more involved study of human nature and psychology. Othello is considered to be a prime example of Aristotelian drama. It focuses upon a very small cast of characters, one of the smallest used in Shakespeare. Also, it has few distractions from the main plot, and concentrates on just a few themes, like jealousy. In Shakespeare's Othello, Othello is an excellent example of an Aristotelian tragic hero. His gullibility and jealousy are the main reason of his downfall. Othello deals with love lost because of gullibility and jealousy. The main character, Othello, is a classical example of a tragic hero, and he has the basic elements that match him up to be a true hero defined by Aristotle. His stature, that of a tall, dark, African Moor, combined with his personal magnetism, assist him in gaining the respect and allegiance of the Venetian people and senators. Othello, being a soldier all his life, is seen as a very honorable man. His title alone, governor-general, presents an air of nobility, confidence, and strength. The title defines someone who is held in tremendously high esteem by the people of Venice. An example would be when the Duke and a few Senators are discussing issues around a table when Othello enters the room. It's clear that Othello is held in high esteem when, as he enters, one of the senators states ââ¬Å"Here comes Brabantio and the valiant Moorâ⬠(3:1:33: 55). Othello's confidence in himself, another of his positive attributes, is clearly portrayed as he defends himself and his recent marr iage to Desdemona, the daughter of the Venetian Senator Brabantio. In his defense, he associates himself with one of the ââ¬Å"great onesâ⬠of the world. He also demonstrates confidence in himself and his actions when Brabantio, Desdemona's outraged father, accuses the Moor of witchcraft. Dignity, courage, a strong belief in religion, self-control and sound judgment is a few of Othello's other positive attributes portrayed in the play. His confidence in himself and his courage are... ...baseness as jealous ones are, it were enough to put them to ill thinking."(3:4:153:26-29) She judged Othello opposite to what he really was. She did not suspect that Othello would suspect her for an affair. In reality, Othello is a gullible person who is drawn into jealousy and falseness by Iago. Othello accomplished his plan of killing his wife and destroying a marriage that had no reason to be torn apart. In conclusion, because of Othelloââ¬â¢s gullibility and jealousy, and Iagoââ¬â¢s skills and intelligence, lives are ruined, and bad mistakes are made, which leads to Othelloââ¬â¢s downfall, and death. Even though Othello was well respected, and very confident, because of his tragic flaw he was unstable, and led him to believe lies by Iago. His trusting nature, overwhelmed him, because he decided to trust and believe Iago over Desdemona, which eventually led him to kill her in the end. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello, jealousy and gullibility, are flaws of the main character, Othello. His flaws completely put him in a different frame of mind, and cause him to make poor decisions. So, be careful of jealousy and gullibility. It is mysterious and can do harmful things to people it takes over. Groups and Teams Essay -- Groups Team Teamwork Essays Papers
Groups and Teams à à à à à Groups or teams can evolve into high performing, extremely effective, useful tools in any organization if developed and managed correctly. Demographic characteristics and cultural diversity can impact the behavior of groups or teams in positive and some negative ways. Diversity may impede the initial progress of a group; however, the long range benefit to creating high performing teams is great. An effective group is one that achieves high levels of task performance, member satisfaction, and team viability (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborne, 2003, p. 2). A team or group is two or more people working together to achieve common goals. Members of a group are usually dependent on each other and have regular interactions in order to reach a goal. They actively work together as a unit in order to fulfill a purpose. Organizations rely on groups to accomplish specific tasks. An effective group is one that achieves high levels of task performance, member satisfactions and team viability (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborne, 2003, p. 2). Synergy, the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, is also part of an effective group. If a group has synergy then they are able to accomplish far more than they would working as individuals. Synergy is crucial in group organizations if they want to be competitive and productive. Groups within organizations improve creativity, implement better decision making processes, increase commitment to goals, offer control and help to offset the size of a large organization. There are many types of groups within organizations including formal, informal, task groups and virtual groups. Group size and dynamics can affect performance. The larger the group, the more help there is to accomplish tasks. Although, a larger group can bring problems with communication, coordination and management. Dynamics or how a group works together in order to deal with issues can also affect performance. à à à à à Groups and teams have several stages of development in order to be considered effective; forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Forming is the first stage and is primarily the initial entry into a group and getting to know each other stage. The storming stage of group development is a period of high emotionality and tension among the group members (Schermerhorn, Hunt & Osborne, 2003, p. 9). During t... ...ity within a high performing team is respected and embraced. Different opinions and ideas are welcomed and discussed. Team members are involved in clear problem solving procedures and they plans tasks completely before acting. Synergy is critical to team success. Management should reward team successes. High performance teams are high-energy, collaborative process groups. They are the playground and work center for capable people with strong, respectful voices who understand and appreciate the power of aligning diverse perspectives (Schutz, 1999, p 1). à à à à à In conclusion, groups or teams that are high performing, and critical to the success of any organization, are rich in diversity, synergy, team work. More can be accomplished, greater achievements and productivity gained, when groups or teams are used in organizations. References Cummings, Jonathon. (2001). The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an epistolary novel which tells a story about self-discovery. As given in Britannica, ââ¬Å"Epistolary novel, a novel told through the medium of letters written by one or more of the characters.â⬠Epistolary novel is a type of novel written in a form of letters through one of the characters. According to a post on eNotes: A genre of fiction which first gained popularity in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the epistolary novel is a form in which most or all of the plot is advanced by the letters or journal entries of one or more of its characters, and which marked the beginning of the novel as a literary form. Epistolary novel first got famous in seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is a genre of fiction in which novel is written in a form of letters or journal by one of the characters. Charlie, the protagonist of The Perks of being a Wallflower writes a series of letters to narrate his story. It is stated on essaytown: Even if presenting the reader with fictional letters, the epistolary novels of seventeenth and eighteenth century already suggested that letter writing had a therapy like effect on their fictional authors. The letter writing would act like a catharsisâ⬠¦ Charlie is called a wallflower by his friends. Merriam-Webster defines wallflower as, ââ¬Å"a person who from shyness or unpopularity remains on the sidelines of a social activity.â⬠People are considered to be ââ¬Ëwallflower' when they are shy, reserved and unpopular. When they stay quiet and avoid talking to anyone. These people are usually introvert and have no friends. They isolate themselves for different reasons such as fears or lack of confidence. They do not participate in social activities and try to remain hidden as if they are invisible. Charlie is an introvert, a shy teenager who does not have friends and does not participate in life. The idea of self-discovery according to Encyclopedia entails ââ¬Å"the process of acquiring insight into one's own character.â⬠People themselves are sometimes not aware of their true nature and their desires. Self-discovery happens when they truly find themselves, who they really are and what they want. Pam M.S. Nugent describes self-discovery as a procedure through which a person finds out their true character and qualities. Charlie, as the novel proceeds, discovers hidden truths about himself, his likes, dislikes, his wants, and what kind of a person he truly is by going through a process of self-discovery.A process of looking for your own identity. To discover what a one individual has in his personality and what things are there to which a person is likely to be more inclined is called self-discovery. As per PsychologyDictionary self-discovery is a method through which a person becomes aware of his true desires and wants. Just as Charlie discovers the truth about his different behavior, his true likes and dislikes.1.1 Background of StudyI would read this novel in the light of the idea of defense mechanisms as presented by Sigmund Freud in the classical psychoanalysis. A post on Chegg Study states: According to Sigmund Freud, who developed the concept in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, defense mechanisms are a major component of personality. Freud believed that personality consists of the ego, the id, and the superego. The id is the source of instincts and natural desires; when these clash with social norms, tension arises as the superego disapproves and the ego mediates between them. Defense mechanisms respond by shifting such desires, feelings, and associated thoughts to the unconscious. The post states that Sigmund Freud considers the defense mechanisms as important part of personality. According to Freud, personality is made of id, ego and superego. Defense mechanisms according Freud respond by changing desires, feelings and thoughts into unconscious. Other than authors, psychoanalytic theory applies on characters. The theory can be used to understand the protagonist of the novel, Charlie, and his behavior better in the light of Freud's classical psychoanalysis. After Charlie's unconscious mind reveals some past memories to him, they cause some psychological disturbances. The research will focus on Charlie's characteristics, his traumas, what defense mechanisms he use against them and his journey towards self-discovery. Regarding unconscious, Freud states:Everything that is repressed must remain unconscious; but let us state at the very outset that the repressed does not cover everything that is unconscious. The unconscious has the wider compass: the repressed is a part of the unconscious. Freud argues that everything a person represses must stay in unconscious mind, but unconscious mind is not only filled with repressed memories, it has other things in it too. Charlie has repressed his memories in his unconscious mind which are later revealed. Calvin S. Hall defines defense mechanism as a way of dealing with different threats and dangers. It is a way to lessen the anxiety by using different defenses such as denial, projection, repression, regression and displacement which are discussed in detail in chapter
